Tranquility Zone - River Muvattupuzha

Follow the route of the river Muvattupuzha river and feast your eyes on lushness that is the signature tune of God’s own country. Begin from the city of Kochi and end in the sylvan surround sound of silence in Vembanad

Muvattupuzha river is the confluence of three rivulets - Thodupuzha, Kaliyar and Kothamangalam. It flows down the hills of Taragamkanam, Valiya Parattan Venniyar Mudi and Neriyamangalam. The river spans 121 km and drains into an area of 1554 sq.km. At Vettikkattumukku, Muvattupuzha diverges to become Murinjapuzha and Ithipuzha and finds its final resting place in Vembanad lake. (The names of the river and its tributaries derive from puzha for river preceded by the name of the area)

You can take a boat ride and pass canoes where fish are hauled in and see the shops lining the banks where the fresh fried catch is sold.

Or watch the coconuts being felled from the trees flanking the river on both sides

Pass by women going about their daily chores of washing and get a glimpse into the local small scale industries of coir making (soaked coconuts from which husk is shorn and woven) and calcium hydroxide (ground clam shells heated and soaked in water)

Floating There
